Event End:

We're back for Data for Good's first Meetup of 2025!
We've been getting a lot of questions about how to gain data science / AI skills and transition into the field, so who better to hear it from than someone who has done just that!
We are very excited to have Scott McKean present to us on how he transitioned from an Engineer to a Data Science Specialist at Databricks.
**About the Presentation**
**My journey from Engineer to Data Science Specialist**
In this Meetup, Scott will candidly walk through his career, from his beginnings as a Civil Engineer, through to grad school, and emergence as a Data Scientist.
He will talk about why he's not exceptional, and neither are you (probably), and that's a great thing. He'll also provide some thoughts on the future of data science after generative AI and why he's excited for the next decade.
Finally, he'll provide some more data scienc-ey thoughts on how analytics can make the world a better place and why data for good is important.
**After the Meetup, we'll get together for some socializing / networking. Stay tuned for details!**
**About Scott**
Scott McKean has three degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Calgary. Opportunity cost of this academic folly aside, he's also worked in engineering consulting at companies like Stantec, Fluor, and Thurber. He then transitioned into a Data Scientist in upstream oil & gas, working for CNOOC and Chevron Canada.
He now works as a Data Science Specialist at Databricks, helping companies like the ones above scale analytics and navigate the crazy world of artificial intelligence, whatever that is.
