The dataLink platform, developed by Menome, was instrumental in fostering business growth and efficiency through sophisticated insights and analytics. After successfully exiting Menome following its acquisition by Arcurve, Mike now advises enterprises, teams and projects on effectively harnessing AI to maximize value and augment organizational performance. Challenging World of Data Privacy and Risk Management
2024-03-28 7:00 pm
2024-03-29
Join us as Awad Loubani presents perspectives on the “Challenging World of Data Privacy and Risk Management”. In many jurisdictions, privacy is considered a fundamental human right, and data protection laws exist to guard that right. Data privacy is also important because for individuals to be willing to engage online, they have to trust that their personal data will be handled with care. Organizations use data protection practices to demonstrate to their customers and users that they can be trusted with their personal data. The information rich session will address the following topics: * Protection the online privacy of Canadians in today’s overwhelmingly digital world. * Case study: CRA privacy guiding principles. * New laws to strengthen Canadians’ privacy & trust in digital economy. * Artificial Intelligence and Data Act. * Summary of privacy regulations in Canada. * EU Artificial Intelligence Act. * Other relevant privacy legislations & regulations. * Other relevant topics: ESG; ERM; ISO 31000 standard on risk management. Awad Loubani is President of A.M.A.L. Risk Management Services Inc. As a Canadian and international risk management (RM) expert, Awad is a trailblazer in enhancing the risk management function within organizations by moving the risk culture from avoidance to focusing on “informed risk outcomes”. He advocates managing risk to protect/grow the firm’s value by enabling it to achieve its objectives more effectively and with greater long-term certainty. He helps organizations survive and thrive with the ability to identify, assess, and manage their key risks. His approach to effective RM enables organizations to achieve their objectives by continually assessing risks to reduce surprises, capitalize on opportunities and improve performance.

2024-02 Cleantech & Complex data sets, & BI Tool Security & Architecture
2024-02-28 5:30 pm
2024-02-29
Join us on February 28 at Platform Calgary for two great presentations. **Schedule:** 5:30 - Pizza and Networking 6:00 - Presentations and Discussion 7:30 - Wrap up **Presentation 1 -** **Cleantech in the home and the impact of complex data sets** **Presenter:** Remus Lacatus from Jotson There are many questions that are hard to answer when it comes to cleantech options in your home. Should you install a heat pump? Will replacing your furnace reduce your emissions? What about EVs and Solar Panels? Most Canadians struggle to answer these questions and more. Join us for a presentation and discussion about the challenges homeowners face when making decisions about household energy. Using a data-driven case study of heat pumps, we’ll go beyond smart thermostats and LED lights, and dive into the facts around energy consumption, cost, carbon footprint, and the potential impact of cleatech for residential use. You’ll leave this session empowered with real-life examples of how the right data can empower informed decisions about cleantech at home. **Presentation 2** - **I Can’t Find a Good Youtube Tutorial on BI Tool Security** **Presenter:** Roland Booth from Benevity Roland Booth is a software engineer with 3 years experience in data & analytics, 6 years experience in information security, and a passion for pioneering new technical frontiers. While obtaining a B.Sc in Computer Science and B.Sc in Pure Mathematics at UCalgary, he entered the information security field through cryptography research, analyzing the security of next-gen digital signature schemes. After, he redirected his passion for engineering, mathematics, and information security to the data & analytics space. Roland develops systems that empower people to get answers out of data, solving for a variety of skill sets, goals, and data-literacy levels. He works extensively with Business Intelligence Tools, spanning a variety of tools, scales, and use cases. Business Intelligence tools (think Looker, Power BI or Tableau) are powerful. They give users a wide-open door to your organization’s data and the tools they need to dig through it. (And to share it.) Perhaps, just maybe, you do not want each and every user to have unmitigated access to this tool. BI Tools provide a variety of features to restrict data access, but assembling them into your organization’s BI Tool Security Architecture is not trivial. And once you roll out your architecture, you’re stuck with it. It’s worth getting right the first time.In this tool-agnostic talk, I’ll introduce common BI Tool access control features. How they fit together, how they don’t. The good, the bad, the stupid, and lessons learned from year’s experience working with them.

Tickets follow a pay-what-you-can model and can be found here: [https://pydata.org/global2023/tickets](https://pydata.org/global2023/tickets) **Why Charge for an Online Conference?** Revenue from the event will go to PyData and NumFOCUS, a nonprofit organization that supports open source scientific computer programming. NumFOCUS currently sponsors 60 Open Source Projects, and organizes community-driven educational programs for users and developers of open source scientific tools. While the 2023 PyData Global Conference has no costs for venue or catering, there are still costs associated with bringing the event online. We also need to continue paying fixed costs to keep NumFOCUS healthy, as well as continue supporting the open source community. For this reason, we have chosen to sell tickets with a pay-what-you-can pricing model. We appreciate your support for us during this time so that we can keep supporting you in the future.
Data Considerations for Grants

For June, we'll be meeting at a brewery for some socializing on a patio. We will let you know which brewery a little closer to the date. For now, we're looking for presenters! Have you always wanted to share something at an event but were intimidated by the format of a 40 minute presentation? We get it! This event is for you! Tell us what you want to talk about for 5 minutes and we'll add you to the rotation! It doesn't have to be related to your job; it can just be something you're passionate about in the world of women or data. No preparation needed, just grab a soap box and tell us your story! (Please let us know by June 9 if you're interested by commenting or messaging us here on Meetup).

Hello everyone, Somehow, I missed Scott and Darrin in the original invite. (Thanks, Ron, for actually reading the meeting invite.) Now that I've mastered O365 distribution lists, this shouldn't happen again. As discussed, I've booked a monthly recurring Board Meeting, the first Tuesday of the month, until next year. If this time is repeatedly problematic for any of you, please let me know so we can reschedule. Thanks for your continued and active participation, Marc ________________________________________________________________________________ Microsoft Teams meeting Join on your computer or mobile app Click here to join the meeting<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_Yjg2ZjA2ZDAtMzI5Ny00YWM1LTljOWYtM2VkYjEyNzhhNzlh%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22f1284c0c-c5df-4e78-8524-1d15ea7f7625%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22d475e90e-57e6-4dc5-a9ed-cf84e6c6c243%22%7d> Learn More<https://aka.ms/JoinTeamsMeeting> | Meeting options<https://teams.microsoft.com/meetingOptions/?organizerId=d475e90e-57e6-4dc5-a9ed-cf84e6c6c243&tenantId=f1284c0c-c5df-4e78-8524-1d15ea7f7625&threadId=19_meeting_Yjg2ZjA2ZDAtMzI5Ny00YWM1LTljOWYtM2VkYjEyNzhhNzlh@thread.v2&messageId=0&language=en-CA> ________________________________________________________________________________
